Awesome Mom

This weekend most of the restaurants will be fill-up due to Mother's Day celebration and am one of them celebrating with in-laws. Mom told us not to pack with others, so we will bring her out next week somewhere we could sit and chat happily.

This poem I browse thru web and would like to dedicate to all mummy and have a great celebration ahead!!

A mother's love
Is always true
It's all you need
To get you through

A mother's love
Can seem like hate
She's only tough
To keep you safe

A mother's love
Is always there
In simple ways
She'll show she cares

A mother's love
Can never compare
With anyone else's
Anywhere

A mother's love
Is here to stay
I love you, mom
Happy Mother's Day!

Weekend @ Butterworth

Friday nite drove back to Butterworth to attend wedding dinner on Saturday. Hubby 'n the kids did not follow, just myself, sis, BIL 'n mum is going back. Actually I supposed to meet up with Shirley on the way to Butterworth, as promised... sorry ya, Shirley! Was really tired 'n sick, so drove all the way and only stopping at Tapah R&R. Reached Butterworth midnight.

Wake up early in the morning and was cloudy is going to rain anytime soon. I was shivering and have to dragged myself to market to have breakfast and went to bride's house. While mum 'n all the aunties 'n uncles chit chatting I went sneaked into the room and take a napped. I really cannot tahan anymore, so asked sis to drove me to nearby pharmacy to get some medicine. After taking the medicine, took a nap again at my aunt house till 4pm. Sis wake me up and we went to saloon. The wedding dinner is just nearby somewhere around Sunway Carnival, just a five minutes drive from my aunt house.

Reached the restaurant around 7.30pm and the dinner began at 8.00pm. The food so so only. As mentioned by most of my relatives there is alot of snatch thiefs arond that area, so we have to becareful after the dinner. After dinner, we are planning to go AutoCity to have a drink, so we went back to aunt house to wait for the other aunt. Few minutes after reaching aunt house, got called from the other aunt that her bag got snatch from the thief and my uncle hand fractured.

We were all shocked!! As the aunt did not say clearly on the phone coz of her shivering 'n crying voice. We waited and waited and called aunt again few minutes later. Then his hubby reached my aunt house, then only we had the clear picture of what exactly happen. He show us his hand, from there we can see that the forth finger is actually twisted, so my mum, aunt and few uncles brought him to see hospital. Me 'n my sis went to bride's house as she is having her "siong tau" ceremony, and we told them the incident, everyone was shocked too!

Yesterday, on the way back to KL, my aunt called us and tell us his hubby was admit to hospital now due to the whole right hand was in pain, so, need to have thorough check-up.

Really dunno what that stupid idiot snatch thief use the hit my uncle hand so hard so he can snatch the bag, People out there, please becareful, there is more 'n more of such incident happen around us.

The Art & History of Lion Dance

Saw this small exhibition at Leisure Mall and wanted to share with you all as some of you may or may not know about this history.

The History
According to ancient legends, the Lion is one of the guardians of the city gate, an auspicious being that protects the people from evil forces. There are many legends about the origin of the Lion Dance. The following are four folklores that have been passed down from generation to generation.

- Legend has it that there were continual famines in ancient China. One day, a single horned monster appeared. Since then, the famine never came again. The villagers named the monster nian. Using bamboos and papers, they recreated the monster. They filled bamboo shoots with gunpowder and covered the village in red decorations. Every year they celebrated te harvest or festivals by performing the Lion Dance and setting off firecrakers to commemorate the day and to ward off evil spirits.

- The emperor Tang Ming Huang dreamed of a commoner performing a dnace that resembled the movement of a lion. The costume was colorful and the dance was accompanied by eight drums. Fascianted by what he saw in his dream, the emperor woke up. He then ordered the costume to be made and the dance to be performed. SInce then, the lion dance is also caleed Xing Shi or the Awakening Lion.
- According to historical record, the lion dance took shape during the Han Dynasty when a foreign ambassador came to pay respect to Emperor Han Wu Di. The Emperor gave him a warm reception. To entertain the special guest, the imperial performers dressed up in animal costumes of every sort and danced in the court. After watching the performance for some time, the ambassador pointed out that he did not notice a lion in the group, and was told by the emperor that such animal did not exist in his kingdom. Upon returning to his own country, the ambassador ordered a lion to be presented as a royal gift to the Emperor. The lion was transported from the West to China throught the Silk Road. The story was then enacted and passed down in the form of lion dance.

- It is believed that, once upon a time, the Cang province was a beautiful place with lush greenery and abundant wealth. However, a pack of wolves came to terrorize the city, killing livestock and the people. One day, at dusk, as the wolves were menacing the city, a bolt of lightning stuck across the sky and out cae a beast with long golden mane. It roared like a thunder and its cold, blinding rays beamed down on the wolves. A pride of lions then emerged from the clouds and changed towards the wolves, killing all of them.
The incident was witnessed by a group of young men. It gave them an idea on how to rid the city of his menace. Together, they made lion costumes and imitated the movements of the beast. As the wolves came to attack the city again, the lion dance troops paraded across the streets while others rushed out hitting their drums to scare off the wolves. Seeing this, the wolves fled the city. From this day, the Chinese perform the lion dance not only to celebrate thier victory over calamity, but also to ward off bad spirits. Today, the lion dance has evolved into a popular performing art that never ceases to amaze the spectators.

1. Drum

In ancient times, the drum was regarded as a tool to communicate with the deities in heavens. It is used during sacrificial ceremony. The history of the Chinese drum can be traced back as far as 3000 years. It was also used as a weapon to attract the enemy, scare off wild animals, tell time and alarm people. With the advancement of civilisations, the use of drum expanded to folk music, opera, orchestra, festive celebration and sports.

2. Cymbal

The cymbal is a percussion instrument consisting of a brass plate that makes a lound clashing sound when hit with a drumstick or two cymbals are hit against each other. There are many types of cymbals and they are categorised according to sizes - small, medium and bit. It is normally used with durms in performance. The cymbal has a long history and its ability to produce loud sound makes it a popular instrument in folk music, opera and orchestra, especially during cultural performance and festive celebration.

3. Big Head Buddha

Teasing the Lion is the main function of the Big Head Buddha. Wearing the big mask of a smiling Buddha and the clothes of a monk, the performer dances to the fhythm of the music, showing all sorts of antics, teasing the lion with a big fan. The performance is usually enacted during the Cai Qing ceremony. In fact, the Big Head Buddha has another hidden role to play. He helps the dancers to overcome problems or any obstacle that may arises during the Cai Qing ceremony.

4. Dragon Dance

The Dragon Dance is another form of Chinese traditional performing art. It is usually performed during the celeration of Chinese New Year. The Dragon is a mystical creature revered by ancient Chinese for tis power to bestow good luck and its supernatural ability to govern the cloud and rain. Among the 4 mystical creatures in the Chinese cultural (Dragon, Phoenix, Kirin and Tortoise), the Dragon is regarded as the most auspicious Ancient Chinese worshipped the Dragon. Today, it is an auspicious symbol. The Dragon Dance is peformed to bring good luck, peach and prosperity in the year to come.

5. Dragon Fish

Dubbed as Dragon Fish, Arowana has a majestic and beautiful appearance that resembles the legendary Dragon. Hence, it is treated as a symbol of luck and prosperity, making it a pet highly prized in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.

6. Qilin

The Qilin is a mystical beast in Chinese culture. Together with the Draon, Phoenix and Tortoise, it is revered as the Four Auspicious Creatures. Qilin is also known as the King of Sacred Beasts. Ancient Chinese believed that the presence of Qilin marked the birth of a son in a family.

7. Northern Lion

There are obvious distinction between Southern and Nothern Lion Dance. The Northern Lion looks more realitic. It has golden fur and the make-up of the head is simpler. The Northern Lions normally appear in pairs. The male has a red bow on its head, the female a green bow. The dance required 3 performers - one operates the head, the other forms the back and the third plays the warrior, leading the dance. Northern Lion Dance style is entertaining. The Lion is agile, smart and jolly. There are times it behaves like a mature old man, steady and composed, but it can be mischievous and playful as a child the next moment.

8. Hokkien Lion

The 3 types of Hokkien Lion
Green Lion with White Eyebrows
He is the older lion. He has long white eyebrows and his mouth opens. In the Hokkien Province, he is always used in religious ceremonies. Those in Kung Fu use it a practice and at demonstrations. Besides at religious ceremonies, the Green lion with white eyebrows is often seen at national celebrations and at parade performances.
Lion Cap
Its distinct feature is its big head and long body, and his charateristics is similar to that the Southern Lion. Often seen at general entertainment, fun gatherings and athletics at fitness training.
Green lion with Black Eyebrows
This type is fierce and cruel, has a long tooth and ferocious look. Its silence reflects the Man Qing dynasty soldier. The sound "Qing Shi" (Green Lion) also means to beat the Man Qing Dynasty soldier in a playful manner, as an encouragement for the Ming Dynasty patriot to revolt.

9. Southern Lion

The Southern Lion is also known as the Awakening Lion. It exhibits powerful moves and strength in stance. its lifelike, forceful dance required great performin skills of the dancers. The pair of dancers forms the head and back of the beast. The Lion is accompanied by musicians playing a large drum, gong and cymbals while a Big Head Buddha teases it with a fan. Cai Qing or "picking the green" is a popular part of the performance. The act symbolises aglity and prosperity.

Neighbour

When you moved into your Home Sweet Home, you would wish to have nice and friendly neighbour. I've moved into my sweet home 7yrs ago and I'm lucky to have nice and friendly neighbour on the same floor we stayed but I'm unlucky too to have such an idiot neighbour one floor above us. That the problem when you stayed in condo.

This neighbour I've been arguing with her since she moved in, it's a aunties, few aunties staying together seldom see guy in there, maybe is their "Ku Por (old spinster) Home".

This aunty, whenever she washed the balcony floor she will pour the water all over and for sure the water will drip at our floor and others. Sometimes, me 'n my kids will sit at balcony during daytime to chit chatting, cutting their finger nails or enjoying the view and the water dripping from upper floor. I really hate this, can't she washed the floor properly, she think she the only one staying there izzit.... she think she only have balcony izzit... really piss me off. So, I went to her and scolded her like no one business. She apologies and and say it will never happen again.

Few weeks later, it's happen again, where hubby was standing at the balcony chatting on the phone and the water dripping. KNN... I went to her again but this time is different aunty, so I told her that you all stay in one roof no communication one izzit, again all the bullshitting she came out with.

After few peaceful day, no water dripping already but..... now dunno what the f*** she doing up there, you can hear the pulling table or chair sound not only daytime even middle of the night and it's everyday. Even the neighbour below us also can hear too. Can u imagine?

Now, whenever we bumped into each other in the lift, she dare not look at me or greet us.

Chaos Control

Saw below article on the magazine, and wanna share with all mummies.

Is your child often messy and scatter-brained? These strategies promise to get your child clean and organised in no time.

You can spot this child easily. He leaves a trial of crayons, slippers, books and even clothes wherever he goes. He also loses his pencil box all the time, and his bed looks like a war zone. As a parent, there's no need to despair or feel like it's your fault for not being strict enough. The truth is, some children (like adults) are more organised than others, while others are simply a mess. But if your child is indeed disorganised all the time, it is best to help him overcome his scatty habits immediately, as experts believe a lcak of organisation can affect self-esteem and academic success. Here's how:

At Home
Concentrate on fulfiling these four Rs, and you're off to a good start:
Routine: Set a certain time for him to do specific things. For instance, he can play his favourite computer game only after he bathes. Or he has to feed the hamsters before he can catch his beloved car racing TV programme.

Reminders: Post-it notes, with world like "wallet" and "water bottle" scribbled in big letters, will help him to remember the things he must bring. Stick these onto a notice board at the breakfast table or near the main door. Get him to stuff these items in his bag before going to school.

Rationale: Allow him to see the reasoning behind the order. This way, he will have a mental "place" of where things go and why. For example, ask him to figure out his clothes from head to toe. Get him to arrange his shirt, underwear, shorts and socks before he dresses up.

Returning: Note where he leaves his belongings. When he tells you he has "miplaced" the items, ask him where he last used them. Reinforce this message: Return the items to the source (where he took them from), sot hat they never get "lost".

Just Remember Not To:
Do The Task For Him. It may be faster, but he won't learn if you keep packing up and picking out his stuff for him

Issue Direct Orders. Use questions to jolt the memory. An order might go like this: "You ave P.E. tomorrow. Don't forget your P.E. T-shirt again, unless you want the teacher to punish you! Replace it with, "Have you checked our timetable for tomorrow? Have you got everything?"

With Homework
A calendar and colour codes are key:
Daily Time Table. Break up his schedule into time chunks. You can use orange for homework time (say, 45 minutes), followed by green for outdoors or rest time (15 minutes). If you're not at home to supervise the plan, get a simple wristwatch with an alarm. When the beep goes off everyday at the pre-set time, he'll know to start work then

Checklists. Get him into the habit of jotting down his homework in his school diary rather than committing tasks to memory. Check th ediary and come up with your own reward system if he lists the homework and does them. Or you could get a small notebook where he writes down personal reminders, like "Call mum at 2pm" as well.

Wall Planners. Set an example by marking out important dates, like birthdays and term breaks, on a wall calendar. Get anymore in the family to jot down key dates liek excursions, grandma's birthday or a holiday on it too.

Just Remember Not To:
Rush At The Last Minute. Dr Garret D Evans, associate professorof clinical psychology who writes for the University of Florida, advocates a checklist for the worst time of his day. For instance, if he's always rushing to catch the school bus, you both need to remind yourselves throught the list to turn onthe radio five minutes earlier than the time he needs to wake up. Come back again five minutes after the radio's been turned on to check up on him. See if he can meet all the requirements on his checklist on time, and if he needs mum's help.

Language(s)

These days, I find parents only speak English or Mandarin to their children; only few speak their dialect ie. Hokkien, Hakka… etc. I’m one of them too, only speaking English and Mandarin to Sebastian and Sidney.

I remember when I had Sebastian, we plan that I will speak English, hubby speak Mandarin, PIL will teach them Hakka and my mum will speak to them in Hokkien but ended up all speak in Mandarin.

During our time, my mum spoke hokkien to us and I pick up other languages only when we go to school. But children now from young they were taught only English and Mandarin and some Malay (from kakak) / Cantonese, what about others dialect like Hokkien, Hakka, Teo Chew and many more.

What will happen to others dialect few years down the road; will it faded just like that. I do not know, this is entirely my own interpretation of my feelings.. : )

Dangerous

This morning while on the way to work, this car caught my attention, so I quickly graps my mobile phone and snap this picture. Did you notice the kid is sleeping but not on the car seat.... not on the back seat but on the speaker board. How can the parent let thier kid sleep on the speaker board. This is very dangerous somemore it's on the highway (Ampang Evelated Highway). Normally the speed you drive on the highway is rather fast, if happen (touch wood) he had emergency break, what do you think it will happen to the kid. I really can't imagine.....

Although I seldom use car seat for my kids, but I will make sure that my kids are sit properly.

Milk Price UP!!

Everything increased... what else is not increase, tell me.
Sustagen price increased to RM19 - 700gm (for Sidney)... Dugro also price increased to RM20.00 - 1.1kg (for Sebastian), all increased by RM0.80 and RM2.00++ respectively. Normally I'll buy those milks at Chinese Medicine Hall but sometmes I will still look around at those hypermarkets where they have special offers.
Lask weekend went to Carrefour Kepong and they had special offers on Dugro Milk where I can save up to RM3 per pack, so I quickly grab 10packet but they put a notice there it's limited to 2 packs per person. I don't care and proceed to Q, while queuing, I saw another woman also buy alots and the cashier let her go. When come to my turn, the cashier said it's only limited to 2 packs, so I argue with the cashier (customer is always right ma.. ) and finally he let me go.... hahahaha

Childhood Obesity

I went to pasar malam @ Pandan Indah and saw this kid catches many ppl attention inlcuding myself. So, I quickly take out my camera phone and take a few pix of him and have a few word with his mother. Take ppl kids pix wor... at least ask permission first lor. He is only 16mths!! At first look, he is really cute and adorable but at second thought, i think this kid are very unhealthy. I think this is also becoz of his mum being overweight therefore he is at the risk of becoming overweight. So, who's to blame??? How to evaluate and treat obese children?

Flood...

Last weekend was at mum house with a horrible experience. It's raining at about 6pm and quite heavily for few hours. So, I told my hubby not to go back first and stayed for a while until the rain stopped. It was almost 9pm and it's still raining but not as heavy as earlier so asked my hubby to get the car first while waiting for us to packing. Once my hubby step down at ground floor (My mum was staying in five storey flat @ Jln Ipoh) and shouted, "It's flood!! Quickly come down". Me and my mum rushed to the balcony and saw the water rising very fast, so we ran down to get into the car but unfortunately we can't as the water rise very fast. So, my hubby had no choice to leave us at mum house and he drive further to higher ground. He ended up parked his car at Sentul, right opposite the Police Station. Only a few minutes the water level reach the waist and goes up to chest level. Phewwww..... luckily he escape fast, if we would to stay another 5 to 10 minutes, i think his car gone.....

Some phone taken from my mum house.... so unlucky those car can't escape
